My pool water has somehow become electrified! My daughter started dipping her feet while holding onto the metal handrail, and was complaining of feeling a shock run through her. Sure enough, I tested my wetting my hands, putting one hand in the pool, and holding onto the handrail. Felt like when you put a 9V battery on your tongue!
What can I do here? I tried to run a test where I turned off the breaker to the pool light, and then tripped the GFI breaker on my house that feeds to the pool pump. So theoretically all electricity in the vicinity of the pool should have been turned off. STILL the water felt this way. Can water RETAIN electricity? I am lost, and frustrated! Any help is greatly appreciated!
ELECTRICITY in the water! What could be causing it - how to stop it?

I dont think I want to get into a can water store electricity discussion but is your pool earth bonded? If you had an earth leakage on another circuit it could feed back even with various breakers off. I would put an earthing wire into the pool and ground that to see if it stops. It sounds low voltage otherwise your daughter would have really known about it hence my earth leakage from another circuit thought. Whatever you should get your electric wiring checked thoroughly. Have you a salt chlorinator?
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

It was a Neutral to Ground issue.
Called my power company, they came out today, and repaired the Neutral line. Now the pool is back to normal!
He said I was the only person to call about electrified pool that actually had one (e.g. not static from a composite deck etc).

Well done, can I ask if you have your pool earth bonded? A customer of mine had the static shock problem on his hottub.

Hi, you referenced not static from composite deck. i am having static from my deck. when you walk across the deck and touch the water, you get a slight zap. but if you walk across the yard and touch the water you get nothing. the pool is bonded, but is there another issue. do you have any insight?
