Back wash procedure

Hi, I am kinda new to swimming pool, and I read everuwhere on the net, that to make a good back wash, you need to stop pump between each position changes on filter, then turn filter handle clockwise, then back wash, and rince, some say "drain" and back to filter. But what to do when your filter does not have a "risce" position ????
I have 4 options ( filter - recyr.- back wash - and waste) Does my waste position is same as rince or drain ???
