We're here on the Costa Blanca with a 10x5 pool .
We've had a visit from a local pool guy and he says that we have a copper sulphate problem; he can see deposits in the grouting.
He recommends emptying the pool and cleaning out existing grout, if we're lucky then re-grout if we're not then pool needs re-tiling.
Between 3000 and 6000 euros, depending on how lucky we are.
Question 1. How did copper sulphate get there? ( algicide treatment by a previous owner?)
Question 2. Is it simply a sight thing or is there a test for it?
Question3. Is there a treatment which is not so drastic or expensive?

Copper (II) sulfate is a commonly used algaecide. It is extremely effective however, it does leave stains on tile, grout, and even vinyl lined pools. First have a professional pool supplier test your water. You can then try using a substance called pool magnet several times. It MAY remove some of your stains. It is simply a sight thing. Do NOt use copper (II) sulfate unless absolutely necessary, like for brown algae problems and when you do have to use it, be sure to thoroughly dilute it. Hope this helps. I agree with Dkrippse. But your pool company is probably testing copper not copper sulfate. Copper could come from algicides or from your heater if your water was acidic for a period of time. Pool magnet as Dkrippse suggested is a correct solution.
