Pool water contamination

Postby brewboy » Tue 06 Sep, 2005 12:18

Some really mean high school kids decided to play a prank on me (and my family, yes I have teenagers) and dumped a quart of vegetable oil as well as a few bars of soap into my above ground pool.

So far I have added some "Pool Perfect" natural enzyme, (to clean up/solidify the oil) and tried shocking the pool several days in a row. (six one pound bags of shock and counting)

The problem right now is that I have a terrible algea problem on top of the huge chunks of solidified oil that are floating/sinking around the pool. Not to mention that my filter becomes clogged after a few hours of operation and the pressure gage is reading 25 lbs.

Backwashing/shocking/etc seem to have no effect. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

how big is the pool? inground? above ground? if nothing seems to work id recommend draining it, if it happens again call the police, thats vandalism and tresspasing. good luck
