Preparing for Painting...

Hi! I am preparing to paint my pool, and was having trouble identifying some problems and solutions. Can anyone help me to identify the surface, and some of these stains?

First, is this pool considered concrete or plaster?

Second, the brown looks like rust, and the green looks like it was algae that ate through the concrete/plaster. Does this look like the case?

Lastly, should I use something to patch the small indentions that the algae, or whatever it was that ate through some of the plaster/concrete, caused to occur?

I am planning on using an epoxy heavy duty primer, followed by a heavy duty epoxy paint. It's a 2-step process sold as such.

It looks like a plaster/ marcite/ marbelite pool. The only surface prep that is essential is a good acid wash to clean the surface for optimum paint adhesion.

If the pitting is severe enough to leave surface marks on the paint, then by all means go ahead and fill the indentations. Epoxy paint can usually fill minor imperfections to provide a homogenous surface.
