pool filter problem

i have a sand filter and cant get to the filter on the pump end to clean it i did the bckwash and rinse and i dont know if the top should come off or it just cleans it when its back washed
please help my pool is cloudy and after i backwashed the filter runs good and can suck you in it but i need to clean the other filter on the pump[/b]

It sounds like you backwashed the filter correctly. Are you talking about the pump strainer basket? You just have to remove the cover and manually dump it out...there is no way to backwash your pump.
