What does it feel like. Dirt? Sand? Slimy?

What kind of pool & filter?

what ever kind of filter it is, it sounds very dirty. Clean the filter and see what happens after that.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have the same problem

Postby hussar8 » Sun 19 Aug, 2007 10:39

16000 gal inground, salt system, sand filter, vinyl liner...

sediment appears every pump cycle...

it is vacumed to waste each time..and filter is backwashed and rinsed one a week.

pool is less than 6 months old, contractor say nothing is wrong with pump/filter...and this has became a "issue" between me and the pool contractor...i want to know what is going on to cause this before i contact a lawyer if this is a warranty issue with the equipment or construction on pool.

whenever i turn the pump on i get dark sediment at the bottom of my pool.

Is the dark sediment all around the bottom of the pool or in just the deep end or just shallow end, corner?

What color is the dark sediment?

whats it feel like?

you could vacuum in waste if you have a multi-port valve and then see how much returns

lots of possible things until you get more info

did the contractor not offer to come out to look at it?

it tends to collect on "corners" and "edges" of where pool transitions from shallow to deep end.
What color is the dark sediment?

like a pecan brown/tan

whats it feel like?

basically silty

it IS vacuumed to waste each time...and it returns each time relatively egual amount.

lots of possible things until you get more info

the contractor basically has blown off our concerns after getting the last check, and said "oh thats just dust and dirt blowing in from outside, vac and backwash..it will go away." which might be believable if it was extremely windy....but its not.

you can add a little DE which is Diatomaceous Earth used in DE filters if it is dust like the contractor is telling you.

sand filters catch less

Sand – Filter Range 20 to 40 microns

Cartridge – Filter Range 10 to 20 microns

D.E. (Diatomaceous Earth) – Filtration Range 1 to 3 microns

you can also do a test sense you sound like your cleaning it good.

after cleaning it, do not run pool for a day or two and see if it comes back without running filter.

if it does only in those areas after you have already tried a little DE you then know it chemicals & algae

I agree with Mr. Clean. The common term for this is "pool dust".

A little DE added to a sand filter will coat the sand surface and allow it to catch this much finer material.

Also...don't backwash every week. Only backwash when you get a 10psi rise in pressure ( or more). Sand filters efficiency goes up as they get dirtier (the dirt actually acts as a pre-filter). The dirtier they are, they better they filter!

If dirts still persists after the advice check your lateral, might be damaged.

Has been the case for some of the maintenance projects we took on.
