Sand filter pressure really high

Postby Nate » Fri 27 May, 2011 23:34

Quick question guys...only been a pool owner for two years. I have a 16 x 32 above ground pool with a sand filter. When the pump is turned off the pressure reads 32psi. When I turn the pump on, it shoots up to 54psi. The gauge only goes to 60.

Less than 1week ago, I changed the sand and cleaned the filter and head. I have tried backwashing for 5 minutes, gets better by a pond or two...came down to 52psi w pump running. Probably 3 minutes of the 5 backwashing, the water was crystal clear. Pool is clean and free of leaves.

Does anyone have any suggestions????

Your pressure gauge is probably faulty. There shouldn't be any pressure in the system when the pump is not running.

So, could there be any other reason. If not then all i'll need to do is get a new gauge right? Where would be the best place to get a replacement? Nothings cheap at the local pool place around here. Thanks ahead

There are loads of places to get a new gauge online. Take your pick.
