I have a puzzling issue here. My pump/filter works fine, constant 8-10lbs of pressure. That is
until I hook up the hose and adapter to the skimmer. As soon as I put it on the pressure
completely drops to zero. Any advice anyone???

If your skimmer is otherwise working properly and shows suction, you loosing priming to pump when attaching the hose.
Hose has to be gradually submerged foot by foot, to let ALL air escape while you have the vacuum head on the pool bottom. THAN you push the other end of hose into the skimmer suction hole with the pump running and bottom drain shut off.
It may take 10-15 sec before pump will clear remnants of air. The pressure will be about 2/3 of normal, due to the low volume supply to the pump.
