Open Pool Help?

Postby NJC2020 » Mon 05 Jun, 2017 12:32

Hello all ,

I have just started to take over opening the pool and cleaning it etc , as my Dad is now to old to do it after looking after his pool for over 30 yrs . This is my first year and without much help I have I think kind of worked it out , but I like you to have a look and see if I am missing anything.

1) open pool , take cover of ( outside pool) Put floc in the pool , leave it for 3 days , Test PH level every week

2) Skim the pool surface and sweep the pool

3) Use the polaris a few times

4) Back wash for 10 minutes , then rinse for 1 min then Filter do this exact procedure for 2-3 days

5) Last step which I havent done yet is to use algeacide.

Things to always do

Test Ph Level every week

Leave the Filter on for 8 hrs a week

There are annoying bits of dirt at the bottom of the pool around the corners but I guess another day of the polaris will get rid of this

Is there any other procedures I am missing Thank you

Get a decent test kit (Taylor K2006C or TF100) Don't Floc,
Get Numbers

FC:
TC:
pH:
TA:
CH:
CYA:
Adjust Pool Levels using Chlorine / CYA Chart
2) Skim the pool surface and sweep the pool
3) Use the polaris a few times
Just vacuum if really bad vacuum to waste
4) Back wash for 10 minutes , then rinse for 1 min then Filter do this exact procedure for 2-3 days
Backwash untill the water in sight glass is clear, only do this when the filter pressure increases 20% to 25% above the clean pressure
5) Last step which I havent done yet is to use algeacide.
Don't use algeacide a properly maintained pool doesn't need it
Things to always do
Test Ph Level every week and chlorine daily
Leave the Filter on for 8 hrs a week
Only leave long enough to clean and mix chemicals
There are annoying bits of dirt at the bottom of the pool around the corners but I guess another day of the polaris will get rid of this

For every 10 ppm Free Chlorine (FC) added by Trichlor, it also increases Cyanuric Acid (CYA) by 6 ppm.
For every 10 ppm FC added by Dichlor, it also increases CYA by 9 ppm.
For every 10 ppm FC added by Cal-Hypo, it also increases Calcium Hardness (CH) by at least 7 ppm
Liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite or plain bleach)
Muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) to lower pH and TA
Bicarbonate of soda to raise TA
Aeration will raise pH only
Pool School
Slam
There's plenty to get on with but the numbers are the most critical to get a decent starting base to know your CYA level for your chlorine and whether you have combined chlorine and need to slam

Why Filter for only 8 hrs and why never use Floc ?

Filter for as long as you need to clean and mix chemicals, no specific time. When you are slamming you leave on 24/7
Flocculant can cause more trouble than it's worth unless you run to waste
