When to backwash

Hi guys.
I'm new to the pool thing.
There is quite a it to learn.

When should i backwash the pool?
Or roughly how often?

I like to backwash at a 40 kPa gain or about weekly whichever is sooner. The ebook on www (dot) poolindustrysecrets (dot) com has a proccedure for backwashing.
