Triton Sand Changing
Triton Sand Changing
I have a triton sand filter. Not sure of the model I just know it takes 150lbs of gravel and 450 lbs of sand. or 600lbs of sand. What is the easiest way to change the sand. Also Do I really need the pea gravel. Or can I just do all 600lbs in sand instead. I live in Phx, Az where it is very dusty. I would think that all sand would be Better. Thanks in advance.

I have never heard of a sand filter with gravel in it. Is it really old?
A sand change-out is super-easy. Open the filter...scoop out all the sand. Wash out any remaining sand, inspect the internal piping/laterals for anything that might be broken. Refill with new sand.
Then be sure to backwash for at least 5 10 minutes, followed by a rinse for 5-10 minutes. This will clean the sand and remove all the dirt/dust,etc. Otherwise you will end up with sand/dirt in your pool.
