vaccuming question.

when i vaccum the pool using the skimmer for suction , there is dirty water being returned to the pool thru the return lines.if there is sand that i'm vaccuming sand from the bottom,i live at the beach,some sand returns back into the pool. i assume the problem is with the sand filter .can you help.

Sounds like a broken lateral in the bottom of the filter.
