We had our water tested by a local pool company and they told us the acid levels are too high and the only way to resolve this is to drain the pool and refill. Couple questions for anyone that can help.
1. When draining an inground pool, how long can the water be out without causing damage to the plaster or shell?
2. Is there any way of fixing high acid levels without draining?
Thank you!

Were they talking about Cyanuric Acid? Thats the Stabilizer for your chlorine and yes if extremely high then drain and refill at least partially may be the answer. What was the level?
Draining
My Chlorine stabilizer (cyanuric acid) level is 87. I am not planning to drain the pool unless absolutely necessary, at the end of the season. I am planning to use chlorine granules (not stabilized) and chlorine tablets (stabilized ) when I travel or just to make adjustments.
My question: for a 24,000 gal in-ground pool, how do I use the powdered chlorine. How frequently, how much per 1,000 gallons, advantages/disadvantages?
