Adding Alkaline Causes Scaling?

Postby Mottyh » Thu 12 Aug, 2021 16:59

Added alkalinity to my pool to bring up the levels which were very low. After adding 10lbs, little white flakes started floating in the pool, and within 30-45min the filter came to a halt and psi jumped to 25psi and nothing came through.

Called the pinch-a-penny which sold it to me and they said it’s scaling that’s coming loose from the alkaline addition. A week later alkalinity still very low, added another 10lbs and same thing happened again.

Does that make sense that I have a lot of scaling on the sides and alkaline is loosening the scaling causing the clogging of my filter?

Thanks
