Problem is Phil, as you add pH + the AlK returns as well, by using aeration athough at our high ALK levels it takes time you will get your pH stable mid 7's and your ALK down. That pump mod video I showed from youtube I copied and the amount of air bubbles is incredible you literally cloud the water for a day or two but it does the job. Your air stones will get you there but slower so please be patient. As the ALK reduces it takes longer still to raise the pH ( that is the point of the exercise). As I said I started from a similar point as you.

I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

All understood and thanks for your input, but can you see where I'm coming from, when the PH gets to say 8.00 the ALK will again be sky high, reducing the PH as you suggested to lower the Alk will bring the alk at a guess to the top of it's scale around 120?

Yes but over time the pH will be in range and there wont be as much dissolved CO2 in the water so you'll get the lower level you want. It just takes time for the process but also as the ALK level falls the pH- will have a more dramatic effect so pH will fall quicker and lower so you will need to reduce the amount of pH- you use.
