Purple Water

All the hoses and plastic inside my (on top the ground) pool are purple. We have had a problem all summer with brown stains and the not being able to get the water stabilized. Anyone familiar with the purple and what can I do to get it back to the nice crystal clear water and get rid of the stains and purple? The only thing we have done differently this year is install a salt based water softener. Could the water coming out of the softener be causing the problem?
