New pool TA/PH problem help please

Postby paco_1mg » Wed 23 May, 2007 09:44

Set my pool up yesterday and added shock chlorine and algecide. My test levels this morning are.
TH-200
FC-10+
PH-8.4
TA-240+ Off the chart
CYA-30-50

The pool water is green and I need to know what steps to take to get my PH and TA down?
Thanks

Muriatic Acid will lower both TA and PH.

Don't know the volume of your pool, but I wouldn't add more than 4 oz's to a cup at a time if under 10K gallon pool and circulate until the water has turned completely before adding another dose - could take an hour or 4 hours or more.

Retest and add more as necessary. Always retest before adding more chemicals. If vinyl, don't let PH drop below 7.2.

Once it gets to 7.2 let the ph rise again (over time or by aeration or adding 20 mule team borax) and then use acid again to bring it down to 7.2 again if TA is still high. This way you will be rising PH without rising TA.

This can take time, don't expect it to work in an hour or a day.
