Problem is Phil, as you add pH + the AlK returns as well, by using aeration athough at our high ALK levels it takes time you will get your pH stable mid 7's and your ALK down. That pump mod video I showed from youtube I copied and the amount of air bubbles is incredible you literally cloud the water for a day or two but it does the job. Your air stones will get you there but slower so please be patient. As the ALK reduces it takes longer still to raise the pH ( that is the point of the exercise). As I said I started from a similar point as you.
