high chlorine levels and ph

Postby Guest » Mon 28 Apr, 2008 22:26

We are opening our pool and currently have it going thru the shock, we are keeping the chlorine at 14. I have a cheap test kit that does ph also, it looks like at this point my ph is well above 8. WIth the high chlorine level throw off the ph? When should I work on lowering this since I dont want it to hurt the opening of the pool.

Yes, a high chlorine level above 10 ppm FC will throw off the pH test, usually making the pH seem higher than it really is. Wait for the chlorine level to drop before trying to fix the pH and in the future check the pH before increasing the chlorine level.
