What does it mean when DPD tablet test turns dark Green/Black

Hi All, Hoping someone can shed some light on this,

Firstly I have a chlorinator that i suspect it on it's last legs, However my problem is when i try to test the chlorine level.

I am using the DPD tablets, I fill the tested to the correct level and rip open the packet for hte DPD tablet. Without touching it, (and checking that it has not turned black in the packet!) i drop it in.

Swirling the tester, the water starts to turn very pink early, then by the time the tablet has dissolved the sample has turned a greenish/black colour!

Any ideas?

Cheers
Glenn
