Which chlorine & why?

I'm glad you posted this topic, as I've been wondering which one to use also.

Without knowing what the pros and cons are you'll be in danger of posting stupid nonsense like some of the previous posters.
We have the information and we don't charge for it so ask and also have water test results to hand and not from dip strips.

Liquid chlorine is generally less costly than granular shock and comes in refillable containers, where granular shock does not. Liquid chlorine does not need to dissolve in your water as it is already in liquid form. In addition, liquid chlorine is non-scaling and leaves no residue. So I prefer Liquid chlorine

And you are not adding unnecessay CYA

Look at Chlorine / CYA Chart
Excessive CYA renders your chlorine ineffective and you have to use more to get the same sanitation
For every 10 ppm Free Chlorine (FC) added by Trichlor, it also increases Cyanuric Acid (CYA) by 6 ppm.
For every 10 ppm FC added by Dichlor, it also increases CYA by 9 ppm.
For every 10 ppm FC added by Cal-Hypo, it also increases Calcium Hardness (CH) by at least 7 ppm
To reduce your CYA you have to do a partial drain and refill
Continuous use of Trichlor/Dichlor will raise your CYA which means you have to raise your chlorine level as well

I usally use Trichlor Tablets. Because Chlorine with stabilizer (CYA) is crucial for consistent treatment as UV radiation can rapidly degrade chlorine; however, CYA accumulates over time and doesn't naturally decrease. To reduce CYA, partially draining the pool, ideally from the bottom where CYA concentration is higher, is the most effective method.

I usually use Trichlor Tablets for my pool. It is convenient and cheap.

Well cheap until you have to partially drain and refil to lower CYA level. If you have treated the water further to lower Alkalinity etc then you go through more process's. Some areas have water shortages which forbids emptying and refilling.
All this can be avoided by switching to liquid bleach.

Clorinating liquid and plain bleach are the same thing Sodium Hypochlorite
