Good'ay, hope everyone is well?
I have not used my pool for ages, but of course continue to maintain it and mentally bathe in its clarity..!
Thanks to this forum, I feel much easier with the pool and how it works. I now do not use any more Bayrol proprietry products, just keep a container of HCl and let the chlorinator do its work.
It is the latter that I would like some info on please, if an expert will spare the time.
1g of chlorine in 1m3 of water is 1ppm, yes?
My pool is 80m3, so to attain a level of 3ppm, I need to have 240g of chlorine, yes?
My chlorinator is rated to make 25g of chlorine per hour, so it will - in theory - need to be on for a tad under 10 hours, yes?
Have I understood the basics?
Now to the next stage: currently pool readings are Chl 6ppm, Ph 7.9ppm, TA 90ppm and CYA 50ppm. Pool will hardly be used but I wish to maintain a chlorine level of 3ppm - or should I aim for more? Either way, if I leave my pump on for ten hours per day, the chlorinator - again in theory - will churn out 250g per day raising - in theory - the level exponentially, yes?
But I do know that chlorine gets used up by the sun and people in the pool etc, so, how does one manage the percentage of chlorine a chlorinator shoves out vs the myriad of things that eat it up? Is there a simple formula? I guess not, as I remember an instance last year where the pool use was very high and within a day or two my chlorine was at 0.8!
Maybe I ask a lot, and no doubt many spend a lifetime on the subject, but I would like to get a better feel for water sanitation - are there any simple lessons on the iternet maybe?
As always help is not wasted!
A lesson please in chlorine measurement?

If there is a cover over the pool your chlorine use could be a tenth or thereabouts of an open to the sun pool. Saving lots of electricity and therefore money. Salt cell will last much longer as well.
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.
