New pool liner and chlorine

I just today had a new pool liner installed due to severe fading. I purchased the liner 3 years ago and it was so faded, the bottom of the pool was completely white and "tacky" when you walked on it. When the guys were installing the liner today they said I might have over chlorinated. I used trichlor pucks and calcium hypochlorite granules last year. Do you think this was the problem? I used to use bleach but was afraid of the fading and it happened anyway.
