- My Pool: cheap Intex pool, with saltwater
Salt water >to> Chlorine?
I have a cheap Intex pool that I added a saltwater pump to. The saltwater pump just stopped working (it's a few years old). I am trying to decide between buying a new salt water pump or just reverting the system to chlorine. My question is this: can I use the water I already have in the pool for this, which is around 3-5 ppt salinity? Or will I have to drain the water and start fresh? Thanks...

What you need to do is check your Cyanuric acid and get it to between 30 and 60 (you may have to partially drain and refill)
Your salt water will be a lot higher. Check this link http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/128-chlorine-cya-chart-slam-shock
You should then maintain your chlorine level proportionate to your new CYA level with Bleach / liquid chlorine which doesn't have CYA in it (This will prevent Yo Yoing)
