Chlorine tablets and Clorox
Chlorine tablets and Clorox
I have a small 16 x 42 Intex above the ground pool. I am using HTH 3" chlorine tablets to maintian my daily chlorine levels. Can I still shock it with liquid bleach (sodium hypochlorite)? Will there be any chemical interaction? I used to go to "Pool Solutions" on the web but it seems the owner accidentally erased all info and now I am LOSSSST! I should have copied the information I referred to frequently, but didn't.

Most of the Pool Forum folks are also at TroubleFreePool at this link. There is no problem at all using different chlorine sources IN THE POOL WATER. The only problem is mixing concentrated chlorine sources together -- in particular one should never mix Cal-Hypo with Trichlor or even use them in the same feeder even at separate times -- a fire or explosion may result. However, in the water, ALL chlorine sources produce exactly the same chlorine (though some products add extra things in addition to chlorine -- Trichlor and Dichlor add to CYA while Cal-Hypo adds to CH).
