pump replacement

Postby anitelite » Thu 25 Jun, 2020 13:54

So our pool sat idle for a year or so before her majesty deemed opening a must. The pump was leaking like a sieve so I replaced it with a cheapo 1 HP above ground pump off fLea bay. Runs well, ultra quiet, but nowhere near the flow of the old Hayward 1 hp pump. Do I suspect a block in the intake? Or do I need to junk the new pump and buy a brand name unit ??

The pump impellor may be blocked with debris after the pool was idle for a year
In fact the slower filtration is better

Thanks for the quick reply Dennis

The pump is a brand new 1 hp blue torrent unit. Do you think a new pump would have a blocked impeller ? I'm thinking that a 1 HP import must just be inferior to a 1 Hp Hayward. Or is 1 hp = 1 hp regardless of brand ?

Yes 1 hp = 1 hp regardless of brand
A new pump won't have a blocked impeller but, your pool was idle for a year, don't tell me their isn't any debris in the pool
It could be your perception that that the old pump had a better flow unless you can physically check
Also bear in mind slower filtration is better
