hi guys need some opinions
calculations according to Chemgeek
"However, you can't really say that Trichlor is 44.5% chlorine. One pound of Trichlor produces the same Free Chlorine (FC) level as 14.644 ounces weight of chlorine gas so is said to have 91.5% available chlorine. One pound (16 ounces weight) of Trichlor will raise the FC by the same amount as 26.4 ounces weight of Dichlor, 22.7 ounces weight of 65% Cal-Hypo, 14.0 cups of 12.5% chlorinating liquid, or 28.4 cups of 6% bleach. "
the above being said:
according to my calculations
Walmart bleach is $3.03 per equivalent available chlorine
28.4 cups * 8oz/cup *1.125 convert volume to weight = 256 oz/16 = 16# of bleach to get 14.644 oz of available chlorine. 96oz volume jug weighs about 108oz. 256/108 = 2.37 jugs * 1.28 = $3.03
while trichlor is $2.22 per pound of chlorine
36# pail = $80.00 80/36 = $2.22
Sound right?
Where can 6% bleach be bought cheaply these days?
Is bleach really cheaper, maybe when it was a $1/gallon

to bad bleach has gone up 50%
In my area, Walmart sells 6% bleach for $2.49 (174oz). That's $1.83 a gallon, so yeah...it's cheaper.

walmart actually sells the larger container at a higher price per volume

Yeah? Cool! But that's twice as many jugs to carry & recycle.
But still...13 cents...decisions decisions....

You read correctly granny. Pool chlorine and bleach are both chlorine. The same stuff!
It is however not as strong as pool store liquid chlorine, so it takes a bit more....but at the same time it is MUCH cheaper. Bleach also has no CYA (stabilizer) which is a good thing if you already have enough or too much.
