Red Coloured water coming out of my filter

Postby Guest » Wed 11 Apr, 2007 06:08

hi,

I am new here and would like some guidance on a small problem..

Yesterday I added chlorine and it went green.. a day later it was clear as anything, very beautiful and inviting.

the problem I have is that when the pump switches off, and at next startup.. the outlet send red water into my pool for about 5-10 seconds then clears up... what is happaning... and why red of all colours?

Is your filter a sand filter? It reads to me like dust is blowing through on start up. this happens when the sand unpacks when pressure is removed and before it repacks under pressure fine dust and dirt can blow through.

Try backwashing then see if it does it after that.

is this a sign of too little or too much sand?

No. It is usually a sign of very fine dust in the atmosphere. The dust is smaller than the gaps in the sand.
