Pre-filter iron out of water?

Is there a way to filter iron out of water before it gets in the pool? Thinking that may be a better long term solution. Our neighborhood is on a commercial well so there’s iron in the water which cause staining around the wall, in the corners and on the steps. Will treat with some sort of metal out type product but is there a way to pre filter the water? We have the garden hose hooked up to an automatic pool filler and would love to find some way to prevent iron getting into the pool.

A friend of mine once had a filter to wash his car, in at the top and out at the bottom, it was a five inch diameter and three feet long tube with course to very fine sand in it, I don't know if that would work but with finer media?
