Green and black spots on bottom of pool

Postby Herb in Florida » Wed 20 Feb, 2008 03:40

We have a salt pool and have green and black spots on bottom of pool. went to leslies pools had water tested they had us add 11lbs of alkalin up, 4lbs of conditioner.

we did as instructed, a few days later the spots are deeper and darker and the pool became cloudy. the pool is in worst shape than it ever has been.

they told us to add clorine it removed some of the cloudyness, But the spots are darker than ever. It seems like that was a lot of chemicals for salt water pool. even the filter and the pcv pipes turned black! not sure what to do or who to trust. Now i'm afraid it could have done something to the pool heater also.

Any suggestions

Sounds like you have a green and black algae problem. Does any of the spots come up or lighten when brushed? When was the last time the filter was cleaned? Alkalinity increaser can cause the water to become cloudy but only for a short period of time. Green spots can be caused by copper while black spots can be caused by iron. Test your water for metals or try a sequestering agent. Make sure all other chemical parameters are in the right areas.
