Do I have to cover pool if I close all my equipment down correctly?

It's not necessary but a good idea to keep all the winter debris and creatures out of your pool making your opening a lot easier
Depending where you are located, really cold or mild will determine whether you would benefit from it. A lot of snow and ice could weigh to heavy and rip the cover. A mild climate would keep the sun off and help prevent an algae bloom
