Blowing out the return lines when winterizing.

I apologize for the stupid question, but I am new to pool ownership. I think I have a good understanding of winterization, however, I don't understand how to blow out the return lines. I connect my air compressor and open the skimmer line and blow it out, then the bottom drain and blow it out, when it blows out the returns jets in the pool are blown out as well. However, I'd like to know if I have to detach the return line at the top of my filter, the one that is by itself, and blow that out as well. I know you can't blow it out through the filter but does it get taken care of when you blow the lines out from the suction side? Again, I apologize for the stupid question.
