Please help! New pool owner!
So I spent a ton of money installing a new Fibreglass pool in the spring. Really enjoyed it all summer, but it’s now time to winterize it as I live in snowy Canada. Had my pool supply place come and do the closing and all went well except for one thing. When they looked at the two suction ports they said they had nothing to plug them with, so they just left them open. I’ve researched and have been unable to find a solution. Help!
Here is what I’m dealing with…

What would be the ramifications of cutting the center section out and using a standard expansion plug?

Cant see from the photo but presume they are threaded? If so buy threaded bungs that seal with an O ring.
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

It's pretty poor that so called experts don't have the right equipment or be prepared to get it to do the job they are contracted to do
Maybe you can do it yourself next year

[img] https://www.poolsinc.com/images3/winterplugs/10.jpg/img] Andrew, in that case what holds the pieces in the photo in place? Expanding bungs are available for smooth unthreaded parts.

Yes, but the centre section is flush with the face of the intake. There is no way to insert an expandable plug.

Re: Please help! New pool owner!
So the part you take out is threaded, then you should be able to get a threaded plug to fit

Re: Please help! New pool owner!
Seconded! As I said in my first post threaded otherwise they would fall out, dont like the stupid cross in the middle just restricts the flow, increases the pressure on the system and costs more in electricity.

No threads, it’s one solid piece. I heard from the company that manufactured the pool and supplied the fittings. They instructed me to cut out the centre section, smooth the edge, and use a #11 plug. It’s all done and the pool is ready for winter!
Thanks everyone!

It's a win win then! You got rid of the bit in the middle as well.

That’s a good thing?
