Winterizing inground pool in NE

Postby erjdriver » Wed 28 Sep, 2022 16:16

Hi,

Winterizing my inground pool - pvc pipes.

Is that necessary - i.e. pvc???

I'm looking for an air blower - what's the cheapest/workable one.

My pool guy south of New England blows out the PVC pipe lines to and from the pool after lowering the water level below the level of the ports in the wall. It seemed like nearly a 2 foot drop in late October. When I opened the pool this spring, the water level was just below the tile.

I’m looking to maybe winterize myself this year too, but for the first year it makes sense to pay the $300 or so you might get charge for two guys to do the job in less than an hour with a high power pump.

Anyway, after looking myself for a blower attachment, I think I’ve decided that the exit port of a shop vac might be easier for me since the pipe is already round. Maybe I can use some 1.5” PVC and a rubber plumbing boot / fernco to attach some ~2” PVC to a leaf blower or the shop vac hose connected to the exit port.

Maybe someone with experience can chime in.

As you said, shop vac works, its what I have always used if I needed to.
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.
