HOW DO YOU BACKWASH? WITH PUMP RUNNING OR NOT
Depends on what kind of valve you have at the filter and what kind of filter. If you have a multiport valve (a knob with a bunch of options such as backwash, rinse, waste, etc.) you turn the pump off, turn the valve to backwash and turn the pump back on. Water will come out and you wait for it to run clear. Turn the pump off. Move the handle to rinse, turn the pump on and let it run for about 20 seconds, turn the pump off. Move the handle to filter and turn the pump back on. If you have a push/pull valve (handle you push down or pull up) it depends on what kind. Some push down to backwash some pull up to backwash. If your pool normally runs with the handle up then down would be for backwash and vice versa. Turn the pump off, push or pull the valve (depending on what kind you have), turn the pump on, wait for the water coming out to clear, turn the pump of, move the handle, turn the pump on. Never turn the valves with the pump running. If you have a DE filter then the DE must be replaced after backwashing.
