pool pressure/uneven flow

hello,

i am a first time pool opener and had it "opened" by a pool co. 6 days ago. first of all it leaks when the filter is not on(i attached it to a timer(and 2ndly the pressure has gone from 15 -18 and it sounds "stressed." i can see the water is agitated in the tubes(maybe air)and it is pulsing in to the pool rather than the even flow that had been. the previous owners left me no written instructions as to backwasking or air line clearing.
