Missing Salt

Postby troubledinaz » Tue 05 Nov, 2019 22:35

Question for you experts that have a lot more pool experience than I. Relatively new pool, 5 months old. Pentair pump and filter, along with an ozonator and ultra UV sanitizer along with a Breeze chlorinator. The situation i have is disappearing salt. I have added 12 40lbs bags, and i'm currently testing at 3100. I've been adding 80lbs a month for the past 2 months. I'm told the only way you can lose salt is via a leak. I have run short and longer (3 days) 'bucket' tests. No leaks, no wet areas. The pool builder is stumped along with a local pool company. All the other chem levels are normal. I'm averaging between 200 and 300 ppm, a week (losing). Typically run the motor on high for 4 hours and another 4 hours on low. Thoughts?

You are correct the only way to lose salt is by introducing fresh water. Evaporation leaves the salt behind.
How are you testing, don't rely on the cell for a read out get a decent salt test

Thank you. That's what i keep hearing. I use a local supply store, who will test all chemical levels for free. They have 2 different methods of testing salt levels. The bucket test seems to confirm i'm not losing any water. A local pool service suggested that i add another 2 bags and call it good (currently sitting at 3100). By the way, get your salt from Walmart, it's less than half what everyone else is charging.

The breeze manual says 4000 - 4500 salt level a minimum of 3000
Get a decent salt test kit to be sure of what you're doing
