Astralpool E25 salt levels?

Postby sjacobs9 » Mon 07 Jun, 2021 05:28

Hi, I need help with understanding the correct salt levels from my Astralpool E25 chlorinator. Page 3 of the manual says "The recommended salt level for Astralpool E25/E35 Salt Chlorinator sysem is 6000 ppm. However, page 4 of the same manual says: "Salt level should be maintained around 3000 to 4000 ppm but should never be allowed to fall below 3000 ppm". Several other places in the manual list different values like 4100 ppm, 4000-8000 ppm, etc. I never see online instructions for salt cells requiring more than 4000. Does anyone know what the correct value should be for this cell? 6000 seems really high

I would be inclined to go for 4000 and see if it works
Also check with the manufacturers and see what they say

Thanks Dennis. I added some salt to bring it to 4500 (split the difference between manual sections) to see if it helps. I'm having trouble maintaining chlorine, in the afternoons TC and FC are falling to just above 0 ppm. I measured CYA levels and it was ~ 40, not super, super low. I've added a little bit more to see if it helps but am leery of adding too much. This is my 4th season with this system and never had this problem before. I cleaned the cell out with muriatic acid but there was no visible scaling and I can see that it is producing chlorine gas when running and that the amount of gas changes as I decrease/increase the power level (this generator has a transparent top). Its all pretty frustrating, luckily nothing is growing yet.

Still having problems with this. I put in 2 lbs of Ca hypochlorite over night and FC/TC levels were between 5-10 in the morning. It stayed that way until about 10:00 am when I went to work. At 5:00 though back down to 1 ppm (hot sunny day). I also tried testing the water coming right out of the return valve from chlorinator. There was some chlorine but only 1-2 ppm, I would think it should be higher. Not sure what to do.

Right let's start from the basics, your chemicals may be off and it may not be your SWCG
Let's have your numbers (CYA is very important)
FC:
TC:
pH:
TA:
CH:
CYA:
If you don't have a FAS/DPD test kit use a pool store

FC: ~ 1 ppm
TC: 1 ppm
pH: 7.5
TA: 100
CH: 230
CYA: ~ 80 (Pentair kit has mark at 60 and 100, level is between)

I don't have a FAS/DPD kit so am measuring TC from hth 6-way kit to be 1 ppm and estimating FC from strips. On the strips, FC and TC are coming out very similar, around 1 ppm.

FC and TC shouldn't be the same
I would be inclined to turn off your SWCG and use liquid chlorine to get things under control
I would be inclined to Slam (Shock Level and Maintain) with relation to Chlorine / CYA Chart and Recommended Pool Levels and then perform the overnight chlorine loss test (OCLT)

I think this problem has been resolved. I added 6 lbs of ca hypochlorite which of course raised the chlorine levels off the scale on my test kits for 2 days. Also cleaned the cartridge filters several times during this process. As the Cl levels began to recede I turned on the SWG and it appears to be nice and stable now, even had to turn down the power to 60%. It is almost a week later so I think the problem is resolved.
