Asking, since I some sales of the 40lb pool salt bags.

Re: Salt Water question
A SWCG (salt water chlorine generator) requires the correct amount of salt to be in water for it to generate chlorine gas
Your SWCG instructions will tell you how much is required

Re: Salt Water question
Just like to add, buy yourself a decent test kit for checking your chemical levels but not a dip strip although dip strips are good enough for salt testing.
Pool salt costs more that water softener salt because it contains CYA stabiliser so when the stabiliser reaches the correct level you can use softner salt

In addition, would like to stock up on some chemicals.
Do I need to stock up on pool shock or will I not need it?
Apologies for newbie questions. Thank you.

Re: Salt Water question
Use these common products to balance your pool
Liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite or plain bleach)
Muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) to lower pH and TA
Bicarbonate of soda to raise TA
Aeration will raise pH only
Soda ash will raise pH and TA
You will need to raise CYA to about 80 for a SWCG, which can be done with Trichlor / Dichlor chlorine tablets or just stabilisor
Your SWCG will be your major source of chlorine but not immediately or if the water is cold
Pool shock is just chlorine use Liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite or plain bleach)

Re: Salt Water question
Newbie here.
I am switching my chlorine pool over to a salt water pool. My pool is approx 18 X 35 ft and 4-5.5 ft deep plus spa. I am guessing maybe 20,000 gallons?
I am looking for salt water equipment that is reliable, long lasting, does a good job and is not too expensive. I am, however, a big believer in quality.
What make and model do you recommend and why do you recommend it?
Thank You very much in advance.
