Three months ago I installed a Mineral Springs SWG and it works great, the only problem I am having is the PH is too high. I have been using PH- to help control it but it's not doing a very good job. Is there a better and/or cheaper way to lower the PH.
Thank,
Dennis

Yeah there is definitely a cheaper way. Use muriatic acid. You can find gallon jugs at your local hardware store or home depot/lowes. 1 cup of acid will lower the pH in 10000 gallons by about .2ppm. You will constantly be battling a rising pH with a SWG. The carbon dioxide bubbles it creates causes the pH to rise. It is unavoidable. Try keeping your TA at about 60ppm to keep the pH from rising so fast. Also get your CYA up to about 80ppm so the chlorine lasts longer.

muriatic acid
I have a 15k salt water pool and take the water to the pool supply store for testing. They have me adding about 1 pint of muriatic acid a week and the PH levels are right on.

How does borax buffer PH when the PH and TA tend to be high?
I've read a little here about it, but it always seems to be added to raise the PH or TA and not the other way around.
What effects do borax compounds have on algae and is it worth adding to my pool??

Hi BilliBob and congrats on the rank
I just found this borax discussion from last year.
It should give some insight into the use of borax for pool water maintenance.
