Remove Salt in Water - Lower Power Consumption & Stress

Postby Zeppelin_Heaven » Sat 26 Jul, 2008 06:55

My Aqua Rite Chlorinator says it’s producing chlorine when the display reads 22-25v and 4.5-7.8amps.

My salt cell is reading on the high end of that scale and wonder if that is extra stress on the salt cell? (26v @ 7.7amp = 196 watts). If I remove and lower the salt in the pool will that reduce stress on the cell and ease power consumption? Good idea?

Nope.

It works the other way - higher salt level means higher conductivity - less stress on the cell.

Lower salt - higher voltage is needed to achieve same current - more stress on the cell.
