Aqua Rite to Aqualink Connection

I have the Aqua Rite system and it has been working good (for the most part) over the past three years. Recently, however, is has lost communication with the Jandy AquaLink RS4 panel. I contacted Goldline Controls and received the standard answer of "you need a new control board". Since everything else is working well I wanted to run this by the forum before spending $$$s.

So...any suggestions on how to get the two units to communicate again? If a new board is required, is this a user-friendly replacement? I don't mind digging in if it saves money.
