What time of year do you buy chemicals?

Postby mknmike » Thu 01 Dec, 2022 14:12

I noticed Bromine 50 lbs buckets going over $460 in this past summer while I’d bought it for ~$240 around July 2021. It seemed like it was expensive all year this year, but dropped to $308 after I bought some a few weeks ago for $360. Will it go lower?

When do you buy your chemicals? Are some much more susceptible to seasonal changes? Or is most of it just supply and demand with factories going down throughout the country or world?

In the swim is still ~$450: In The Swim 1" Inch Pool and Spa Bromine Tablets - 50 Pounds https://a.co/6lbUONo

$349 (and $10 off coupon) here for hydria clear: https://www.poolsupplies.com/product/hy ... ontent=All

^^^ sale price $329 4/6/2023

2/23/2023: while Amazon has jumped to $380, poolsupplies.com is holding steady at $349 all winter and still $349 today, but does show a crossed out $449 price. So maybe the price jumps up come summer.

$345 Hydria Clear on Amazon: Hydria Clear 1 Inch Bromine Tabs | 50 Pound Bucket | Spa and Pool Supplies https://a.co/d/drmFtbt

Above prices were 12/8/2022.

12/10/2022: Amazon hydria clear is $339.99 Hydria Clear 1 Inch Bromine Tabs | 50 Pound Bucket | Spa and Pool Supplies https://a.co/7TtvVbG

12/15/2022s link just above now shows $359.99. These prices fluctuate a lot it seems.
12/18/2022: 352.92

12/20/2022: $337.92

12/24/2022: $337.92

1/1/2023: $329.92

2/10/2023: $317.92 (6% off $339.99)

2/23/2023: $380

4/6/23: $329

Edit: October 2023, seemingly all month bromine has been down to $239.99 on Amazon, lowest I’ve seen in my 2+ years.

Edit: adding Doheny’s but see now why I didn’t before. $450. https://www.doheny.com/hydria-clear-1in-bromine-tablets
Edit:
^^ $299 on 10/26/2023

Edit: June 20, 2023: every place I check, now 50 lbs of Bromine is $299.99.

I have plenty at the moment but am tempted to buy more because I don’t envision being able to handle draining the pool this year either. I just need a break from projects and have too many others this year. So I may be in for another year of a Bromine pool.

Edit: July 26, 2023: 50 LBS of Bromine on Amazon is down to $275. Hydria Clear 1 Inch Bromine Tablets - 50 lb Bucket LK002 https://a.co/d/8Q1Da47

Prices seem to be much lower now. Reverse inflation??

Edit: that was 6/20 and I bought some bromine stuff $275. It’s $290/50lbs now 8/25. Keeping my eyes peeled to see how prices move. Shock and Bromine and water seem to be my biggest pool expenses.

At the beginning of December I bought 50 lbs of Bromine bc the price was around $230-235. Today I noticed it’s under $220, the lowest I’ve ever seen, but then again, I never looked before the pandemic. I think I’ve got 100 lbs which is enough to get me through a year. So I guess there’s no point in buying more bc it’s $10-15 cheaper now. It is worth noting that between Xmas and New Years this lowest ever price appeared.
