how much of an above ground pool is "safe" to bury

Postby chazman819 » Wed 21 Jun, 2006 13:36

We just replaced a 15x30 oval pool with a 20ft 54" pool. What is the best way to go about filling in the aread around the pool. Obviously fitting a round pool in an oval spot leaves a lot of room. Can I just backfill around the new pool? I would need to go up about 16" to allow it to blend in the the grass around it, and for water runoff to go away from the pool. Can I build it up that high around the base of the pool?

I thought about leveling down to the base of the pool, but the size of the yard and the size of the previous pool would cause me to have to level the whole yard, and I don't really want to do that.

Thanks for any help.

Above ground pools can be sunk all the way into the ground so in your case I would not worry about packing dirt around it. You may want to line the wall with plastic or paint it with roofing tar to prevent rust.
