Stain Determination Test

I have had an issue with a stabilizer (cyanuric acid) that was dumped directly into the pool and caused a white stain on the surface of the liner where it layed. The product's manufacturer has asked for a "stain determination test to be performed by my pool maintanance crew. Can i get some explanation of how it is performed. This is being done before they can determine liability.
