Losing water with pump off, gaining water with pump on

Hi pool forum,
I've monitored my water levels because I was losing water. I found I'm losing water with the pump off (about 1.5" per day) which led me to believe I have a suction side leak possibly. Then I found out that I'm gaining water (about 1" per day) if I keep my pump running.

I don't know if it's related but I see to have dirt or DE constantly on my pool floor also. I haven't been able to vacuum it much because of my continually falling water level, so it just may be residual crud.

Anyone run into this before? I'm waiting on my pool leak expert to come and check it out next week.

Thx,
JK from GA

It could be a suction side leak. Probably skimmer or main drain. If the leak is below the ground water, then it could suck in ground water. What is your ground water level?

I would start of with checking the integrity of main drain basket, connections and hydrostatic plug seal.
If you lucky it may the location.
Dirty water may indicate collected water table bellow the pool bottom found it's way in your pool.

Thanks for the input guys.....greatly appreciated. The more I look at the sediment and do my research it sounds like it might very well be the hydrostatic valve/seal.
