1) We had a pool inspection before purchasing our house and was told that there were about $1000 worth of repairs.
2) We closed on the house Aug 1 and had the repairs done that day. There was no report of a leak from the previous owners, and none was mentioned during inspection.
3) I noticed the following week that our pool was losing water.
4) I called and had them come out but they said there was no sign of leak.
5) They came again and noticed it losing water.
6) They identified a leak as being in the split return valve.
Being a pool novice I have no idea what the part is above, but they are telling me it is a $1000 fix. Is it possible that the leak was caused by the repair person on Aug 1, if they did the following according to their invoice?
Ok to replace the bulb and gasket in the pool light, replace the pods, wings, and shoes on the pool cleaner, install a vac lock on the pool cleaner line, replace two valve handles, replace the flow switch on the salt and bond the saltsystem for

Re: Afraid I am being rooked
With the price tag of 1000, I would want to see exactly what the part was and a schedule of work to replace then come back on here. There is no way of telling if the breakage was caused by the inspection and indeed if it was whether previous neglect was the real cause, valves do seize and it's usually the unlucky person who touches it that gets the blame.
Long term lern to look after the pool yourself and get you own proper test kit.
