Prrssure test reveals leaks

Postby tamarocks » Fri 11 Jun, 2021 18:43

Hello,

Pressure tests revealed leaks somewhere in return line and skimmer. He said skimmer alone would be at least $3000. Ant suggestions on where to go from here? I am considering trying a fixaleak product. Thank you.

Fixaleak product won't work on the skimmer as it's a suction line

I’ve had luck with fix a leak for the returns. It is possible to use it on the skimmer but is much more
Involved. There are some videos on how to properly do it.

Ideally you get it fixed but a few things you can try are:
if you have a pool drain and a skimmer, close the skimmer valve slightly and open the pool drain valve. This will reduce the suction for the leak.
also what you can try is take out the skimmer filter, if this stops the leak change the filter to a slightly larger mesh.

To fix it use a 'jar brush' (slightly smaller than the pipe diameter) on a 'wire puller' dipped in pvc glue put it in the skimmer hole to the first connection and rotate the brush. Then use an air gun with a rubber attachment to increase the pressure in the pipe. Make sure the inside is dry. It's a messy fix but if you're lucky it works.
