I noticed a small leak and had been refilling the water. I came back today after several days of not using the pool and noticed the level had dropped significantly. I did notice a small chip in the stairs. I have a 18x36 IG pool. My liner was replaced last year. I'm wondering if this chip could be the cause of my leak or if there is something else going on? If so, what are my next steps. Thank you in advance.

Re: Pool leaking
I would do a bucket test. Fill a bucket and mark the level. Mark the level in your pool see if by evaporation the water goes down by the same amount then you can eliminate evaporation as a cause of water loss.
I may not give you the answer you want to hear, but I will give an honest opinion of your situation as you decribe it.

Thanks. Its def more than evap. I reached out to my pool company. I have filled the pool back to half of the skimmer and put the plugs and gizmo in place. Will see if any water loss in 24 hrs. If no water loss, they will do a pressure test of the lines next week to see where the leak is.Teapot1 wrote:I would do a bucket test. Fill a bucket and mark the level. Re: Pool leaking
Look for a leak detection company that use the Anderson leak trak, that will locate any pool basin leak in minutes.

I filled last night around 6p. Plugged the returns and gizmo in the skimmer. Looks like the water level has already dropped overnight. That points to the problem not being plumbing, correct?Teapot1 wrote:Look for a leak detection company that use the Anderson leak trak, that will locate any pool basin leak in minutes.

Re: Pool leaking
Yes exactly, now to look at the basin, quickest method for detection is the leak trac but not every pro has one which means ablot more wasted time and unreliable results with leak detection dye.

Re: Pool leaking
Of note, the liner was replaced in 2020. I did notice the liner near the bottom step when pressed on underwater allowed bubbles to float up. Not sure if thst means the liner near the stars is not air tight. Either way, I'm waiting to hear back from the company. Thank you about the tip re: leaktrak.
